My alarm went off at 4:45 AM on Sunday, October 18, 2026. By the end of the morning, I had finished the Cal Tri LA Olympic Triathlon in Marina del Rey, with my son William holding my hand at the finish line.
The race
The Olympic distance is a 1,640-yard swim, a 24.3-mile bike, and a 6-mile run. My chip time was 2:46:02, and by God's grace I took 1st place in the F35–39 division.
The moments I'll remember most aren't on the results sheet, though. As I came out of the swim, William was there ringing his cowbell. At the end, I crossed the finish line holding his hand. My husband filmed the whole day, so we get to keep those moments.
One win at a time
Race day is a good reminder of something I come back to often as a mom:
You don't have to win the whole race today. One prayer. One small step. One win at a time.
Whether you're training for a race, getting through a busy week, or just trying to find ten minutes to move, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Small, faithful steps add up.
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength."
— Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
Thank you
Thank you to my friends and family for cheering me on, and to my husband and William for being there every step of the way.
